Flipping Out Over This Amazing Flip-Flap Card!

There are times when a card comes together so perfectly that it makes your heart skip a beat. This Flip-Flap Card is one of those creations! I can’t contain my excitement over this beauty, and I am thrilled to share all the details with you.

Starting with a Basic Beige card base measuring 10″ x 7″, it was scored at 5″ on the long side and folded to create a strong foundation. The inside of the card was decorated with layered panels and finished with Basic White to allow plenty of space for a heartfelt note. To add depth and richness to the front, a 4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″ panel of Lost Lagoon was adhered, creating a striking background.

The magic of this card lies in the interactive Pull-Out Panel, cut from Basic Beige at 9-1/2″ x 4″ and scored at 4-1/2″ on the long side. Once folded, a 4-3/4″ x 3-3/4″ Lost Lagoon panel was adhered to the inside right of the Pull-Out Panel, setting the stage for the next layer of design.

Using the One More Year stamp set, the sentiment “Aging Fine Like Cheese and Wine” was stamped in Early Espresso on a 3-1/2″ x 4″ Basic White panel. Accompanying this was the delightful cheese and wine stamp, brought to life with Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers. This panel was then matted with Lost Lagoon and placed on the left inside of the Pull-Out Panel. On the right side, a 3″ x 4″ Basic White panel featured the “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the same set and was adhered over the Lost Lagoon layer.

To bring the interactive element to life, a 3″ x 2″ Basic Beige piece was cut to create the Roller Mechanism. This piece was scored at 1/2″ and 2-1/2″ with the 3″ side at the top of the scoring tool (see photo above), with additional score lines in between. By folding back and forth and using a Bone Folder to soften the fibers, it became flexible enough to glide effortlessly. Tear & Tape adhesive, known for its strength, was applied to the 1/2″ ends, securing the Roller Mechanism to the Pull-Out Panel in the perfect position for smooth movement.

Once the Roller Mechanism was in place on the front of the Pull-Out panel (align carefully and make sure the edge of the Roller Mechanism and the edge of the Pull-Out panel are even), fold the Roller Mechanism over to the left. Then attach a 4-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ panel of Basic Beige over it, carefully ensuring proper alignment by making sure the 4-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ panel barely overlaps the Roller Mechanism and is evenly spaced over the edges of the Pull-Out panel. With the mechanism working seamlessly, the piece gets flipped over and Foam Adhesive Strips applied along the top, bottom, and left side to ensure a strong hold. This unit was then adhered to the card front, slightly toward the left, providing room for the Pull-Out Panel to slide with ease.

A small but important detail was the pull tab, crafted from a small Basic White circle die-cut using the Stylish Shapes dies. Stamped with “Pull” in Early Espresso from the Hooray for Surprises stamp set, this tab was securely attached to the bottom of the Pull-Out Panel, offering a clear and charming cue for the recipient.

No card is complete without a stunning front panel, and this one does not disappoint. Layers of Pretty Peacock (4-1/4″ x 5-1/4″), Lost Lagoon (4-1/8″ x 5-1/8″), and a stamped Basic Beige panel (4″ x 5″) featuring “You’re How Old?” from One More Year in Early Espresso came together beautifully. The finishing touch was an eye-catching Dahlia Fold flower made from the Timeless Plaid DSP, with a Neutrals Sequin in the center adding just the right amount of shimmer.

I’ve also entered this card into the Inkspirational Challenge #335 because these colors on the Mood Board are incredible! Since I used the Hooray For Surprises stamp set (haven’t used this sweet stamp set in ages), I’m entering this card into the The Neglected Stuff Challenge as well. Finally, I’m entering the Daisy Chain Challenge #93 for their Layer It Up challenge.

The result is a truly special card that is as fun to make as it is to receive. The combination of interactive elements, rich layers, and thoughtful embellishments make this a standout project. Whether you create one for a milestone birthday or just because, this Flip-Flap Card is sure to bring joy to both the sender and the recipient.
