Today, I’m excited to share a fun and easy birthday card design that was inspired by the Freshly Made Sketches #670 and the Color Throwdown #825. This card showcases the One More Year stamp set and brings together bold colors and playful elements to create something truly celebratory. And the best part? There’s a video tutorial to walk you through every step of the process so you can create one too!

The card begins with a Basic Black base that sets the stage for the colorful layers. I added a Balmy Blue panel stamped with the “asterisks” or “fireworks” image from the One More Year stamp set. Using Balmy Blue ink, I created a decorative border all around the edges of the panel to add texture and interest.

For the focal point, I stamped the birthday cake from the set in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of Basic White cardstock. To give the candles a festive touch, I used Balmy Blue, Petal Pink, and Lemon Lolly inks to stamp the “fireworks” over the candles. The sentiment “Happy Birthday” was stamped to the right of the cake in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. To frame the sentiment, I added fun lines of Balmy Blue ink above and below it.

Coloring the cake and platter was one of my favorite parts of this card. Using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers in Crumb Cake (light and dark), I gave the cake a rich, warm tone. For the icing and details, I added pops of pink, Lemon Lolly, and just a touch of Poppy Parade to make the design extra cheerful. Once the coloring was complete, the art piece was mounted onto a Basic Black panel to create a striking frame. This layered piece was then adhered to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals for added depth.
The inside of the card continues the playful theme. I used a panel of Balmy Blue to frame a Basic White piece stamped with the humorous sentiment, “At least you’re not as old as you’ll be next year.” This little detail adds a fun surprise for the recipient and ties the whole card together.

To finish the card, I added some Clear Ribboned Adhesive-Backed Dots to the front for a touch of sparkle and texture. These embellishments catch the light beautifully and bring a little extra shine to the design.

This card is a great example of how you can create something special with just stamps, ink, and paper. It’s a simple yet striking design that’s perfect for celebrating someone’s special day. If you’d like to see the step-by-step process, be sure to check out the video tutorial I’ve created. In the video, I’ll guide you through each element of the card, from stamping the background to adding those final finishing touches.
I hope this card inspires you to get creative and try out some fun colors. Let me know if you’ve created a card using this design or color combination. I’d love to see your take on it!
